Seven Courts Hit-and-Run Driver Awaiting Sentencing

David Grayson French Jr. has pleaded guilty to striking and killing an elderly woman in Perry Hall.

A Perry Hall man could face up to 10 years in prison for striking and killing an elderly woman on Seven Courts Drive in January.

David Grayson French Jr. pleaded guilty on Aug. 7 to failing to remain on the scene of an accident resulting in death, which is a felony, according to Michael Fuller, a Baltimore County assistant state's attorney.

Fuller told Patch he is seeking a maximum sentence of 10 years. Baltimore County Circuit Court Judge Kathleen Cox is expected to announce the sentence on Nov. 1.

The prosecution chose not to pursue two lesser charges, including a hit-and-run misdemeanor and traffic violation, which could have resulted in only five years of jail time and a fine, according to Fuller.

"We're choosing to move forward with the felony charge because obviously, he should have known that the accident caused extreme bodily harm," Fuller said.

"The facts in this case are overwhelming," he added.

I don't think ten years is enough. The whole thing was probably an accident - it was dark and rainy and he probably didn't know why a car was stopped in the middle of the road. But there is no excuse for leaving the scene. He had to know he seriously injured that woman. He left her to die in the road, in the dark, in the rain. And he only gets a maximum of ten years for that???

His actions are inexcusable, but I doubt he'll get more than 3-4 years.

SAD !!! We all know he didn't mean to KILL someone. It was a tragic accident. BUT he choose to run which makes him GUILTY of hiding the truth. He was probably impaired by drugs or alcohol. We will never know. One day he will meet his maker and have to answer for it!!! Such a shame. May Mrs Moore rest in peace

There is no mention of speed being a factor here. Swerving around another vehicle and driving away seem to be what caused this tragedy.

I'm no lawyer, but how was this not something more severe like involuntary manslaughter? He sped around a stopped car on the portion of the road that is one lane each way and killed someone. Any way you look at it 10 years is too lenient.

I can only pray he gets the full ten years. If you are truly sorry you don't still party on the weekend. Thank god I personally don't know him but people I know do and he is still living it up. Jail should be his only future.

Actually that part of the road is two lanes. They are robably only going after 10 years because there was no crosswalk. If a car stops for someone in a crosswalk any cars behind it have to stop, I found this out when I was rear ended when I stoped to let someone across Liberty Rd and I had stopped right before the crosswalk. This is a tragedy, I am so sorry for Mrs Moore's family & friends. Not stopping in time, when he realized there was someone in the road, and leaving the scene was David's crimes.

Thanks for making people in their 60's elderly. The hit and run driver should get out of prison when he is elderly -- over 80.
