Here we go again.
The National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center in Norman, OK calls for a slight (30 percent) chance of severe storms for most of central and western Maryland on Saturday and across the mid-Atlantic on Sunday.
Heather Sheffield, a forecaster with the NWS office in Sterling, VA, said a high pressure system will move into the region Friday evening and early Saturday, while a cold front from the north will move in Sunday afternoon.
"It's going to be warm as well on Sunday and that's going to fuel those storms that are ahead of that cold front," Sheffield said.
The storms could carry the possibility of high winds and hail. But Sheffield stressed that, despite the plentiful fuel, the storms won't be like last weekend's derecho that knocked out power to thousands in the area.
Baltimore forecaster Justin Berk on Twitter called this weekend's incoming storms a "big bang."
The good news? Sheffield said that the Baltimore area is expected to shed its streak of high temperatures.
"Right now we have temperatures going back to normal, which is in the mid- to upper 80s for the start of the work week next week," she said.
But until then, the mercury is in for a workout. The NWS forecast for Perry Hall calls for a high of 104 on Saturday and 96 on Sunday, though the heat index will make it feel much hotter.
Baltimore County officials advise residents seeking someplace cool to find their nearest library or senior center.
