Anti-Obama Kingsville Parade Float 'Not Sanctioned by Committee'

A float opposing President Barack Obama entered only as an "antique vehicle," and did not mention anything about its political intent in advance, the parade chairman said.

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD -- A anti-Obama float, featuring two people wearing masks of and First Lady Michelle Obama, rolled along a local

With the United States already in the thick of election year politics, the float was a cutting criticism of the president. But it also came as an unpleasant surprise to Kingsville parade organizers, who asserted that the content of the float had not been approved by the planning committee in advance.

One sign read, "Obamanomics Spreading the Wealth," while another included the attributed Thomas Jefferson quote: "The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not."

Other politically motivated parade marchers, floats and vehicles were almost exclusively conservative and in support of specific Republican politicians and candidates. For the most part, they passed out candy and shook hands with parade-goers.

Some bystanders booed as the anti-Obama float passed and some cheered, while others said it was confusing. Most responded to it with silence—in stark contrast to the claps and cheers that followed most other floats.

One reader told Patch by email on Thursday that the float was "disgraceful," and should not have been allowed in the parade.

Linda Alexander, the parade chairman, said the float was "definitely not sanctioned by the committee."

She declined to disclose the names of those who entered the float, but said the float description was listed on the entry form only as an "antique vehicle," and did not mention anything about its political intent.

"We have no intention of making this a political parade. It is a family event," Alexander said, adding that a group collecting signatures for a political cause was asked to stop by parade organizers.

"Sometimes these things just happen. We can't always control it," she said.

Alexander also said she hopes parade-goers focus on the more than that celebrated the Fourth of July in a more positive light.

What's your take on the float? Are critical political displays simply an expression of freedom of speech or should they be restricted from hometown parades? Tell us in the comments.

Regardless of whatever or whoever FIFA is, the point is clear. Recklessly calling names and making accusations while hiding behind a keyboard is spineless, to say the least. I've been away from the keyboard for a while, and my breathing is fine, thank you!

FIFA, my point was that even a Communist is in awe of Obama's ability to mislead and "snakecharm." You, Sir or Madam, are one of those poor snakes! How can a comment regarding "sharing wealth" not be socialist? How is socialized medicine not socialist? Read Obama and Islam by Robert Spencer or just read about Obama's past activities and associations. In April, 1983, Obama attended a "Socialist Scholars Conference" touted as a tribute to Karl Marx. Apparently, he enjoyed it because he attended the1984 conference as well. In any case, you strike me as too close minded to research things so I refuse to continue to engage in a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent!

As a senior in college (29 years ago) he attended a conference, from that you deduce what you deduce. Now tracy answer a question for me, How did Romney manage to get a $100 million IRA into a secret account in the Grand Caymans?

None of my comments were deleted, unlike your name calling Jack.

Castro has never been known to be an idiot!!! Sometimes has a certain "down home" way of expressing his views. God knows, he "charmed" his people until he had a strangle hold on them. No so charming after that! Best we take heed!!!
Lorna D. Rudnikas July 11, 2012 at 07:26 PM
Oh My God! Could it be possible that the current President of our great country is actually a 'racist?????' Geez, never thought of that...but then I must admit I have not read his books. Oh well...my mistake!!!

So much for "cowards hiding behind a mask"
Other Tim July 13, 2012 at 12:13 AM
How do you know about the secret account in the Grand Caymans? Sounds more like a rumor, or it's not a secret.
Other Tim July 13, 2012 at 12:29 AM
You list a full name. Don't really know if it's a real name. Doesn't matter. You don't have a problem with most of the people who don't give their real name (probably about 90% of posters). You seem to only have a problem with FIFA and others who disagree with you who don't give their real name. You clearly just don't like people who disagree with you. If you really think all posters should come forward, then you can go to your profile and post pictures of yourself, your home address and phone number, where you work, etc. You choose to only show a first and last name. I choose to only use a first name.
FIFA July 13, 2012 at 12:45 AM
Other Tim, do you not watch or read the news? I can't make that up! It is like water is wet. Please apologize after you fact check.
Jack Noppinger July 13, 2012 at 12:49 AM
My problem has nothing whatsoever to do with those who do not agree with me, nor those who do not list their name. Disagreeing is the American way, and I certainly respct that. I do however, have an issue with someone who continually calls names and disrespects people just because that person does not agree. Name calling and the likes is the issue...not whether one agrees or not. Look at my posts, then look at those to whom I address...who slanders and calls names? Get it right, and I have no problem identifying myself...unlike others!
Other Tim July 13, 2012 at 01:11 AM
Just saying, FIFA. If you know about it, it ain't no secret. And I accept your apology.
Susan Richardson July 19, 2012 at 01:15 PM
You are entitled to your own opinion, but you are not entitled to your own facts. Those who are railing against President Obama are making comments that they fail to back up with reliable, factual information. Most of it is classic projection (blaming on President Obama the events which actually occurred under President Bush or because of his policies) and/or purely provocative rhetoric that is designed to appeal to people's emotions. It is patriotic to be informed with the truth. I do believe most of this hatefulness is because of ignorance and racism. This is very sad for America, but then our Founding Fathers disenfranchised African Americans, women, and the materially poor. Of course, that was 250 years ago. I'm sure most of the haters call themselves Christians, Jesus Christ preached against hypocrisy and greed, and stated, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." Racism has no place in the world.
Other Tim July 19, 2012 at 03:25 PM
Some people keep insisting that anyone who has anything to say that disagrees with Obama's policies are racist. Before Obama there were 43 white presidents. People have been disagreeing with their policies for over 200 years. Why suddenly when we disagree with the first mixed race president are we racists?
Joyce Vonderkall July 19, 2012 at 03:46 PM
In responmse to Susan Richardson, There you go playing the race issue again. How many people already stated that it wouldn't make a difference if he was white, pink or any color, it is that he is leading this country in a direction that isn't good. As far as making statements and not backing them up, you need to read the comments. Garce has put many links to back-up her statements. Seems some people just want to be blind to the truth. And as far as being Christian, yes I am. I believe in helping my fellow man, but there is a difference from helping and enabling.
Joyce Vonderkall July 19, 2012 at 04:06 PM
In respoinse to Susan Rochardson. There's that race issue again. If you would read the comments you would see that many of us state that we wouldn't care what color he is, it is in the direction that he is leading this wonderful country that we don't agree on. As far as backing-up our statements, Grace has many links that support what she said. Just some people would rather remain blinded to the truth and believe it is just race when the issues are different from theirs. And, as far as being Christian, yes I am. I believe in loving my neighbor and helping my fellow man, but there is a difference in helping and enabling.
Lorna D. Rudnikas July 19, 2012 at 04:54 PM
Totally agree with Other Tim!!! Most of the time the "race card" gets used when all else appears to be failing or when one wants to cover all bases... So unnecessary to do. Our current President was voted in in 2008 and I have not noticed any difference in his appearance other than a little more grey hair. ...the big problem is how his job is being done, minus whining and blame game...I would doubt that he wants such race card garbaage to be utilized....ya think?????
FIFA July 19, 2012 at 04:58 PM
Who knows what you think? Too many side effects leftover from your hippie days I guess?
Lorna D. Rudnikas July 19, 2012 at 05:02 PM
Sorry darling, "hippy days" not my time. Interesting that you would sarcastically come to that conclusion, however. ha, ha,ha

The pic gives you away. Nice glasses though.
Lorna D. Rudnikas July 19, 2012 at 05:14 PM
Oh honey child...I am probably the last person in the world you could equate with "hippy".. nice try though!! :-)

Obama's socialist agenda is nauseating and ignorant. I can't wait to see him go.

Tim Davies November 14, 2013 at 09:35 AM
They said they wanted the 4th of Jully parade to be a "family event" and not a "Political Parade"....The 4th of July is a celebration of POLITICAL FREEDOM, why in the world would you comment on not permitting a float that voices discontent with the way current freedoms are being handled!? I am proud of the float owner who did this!
Lorna D. Rudnikas November 14, 2013 at 11:34 AM
Oh for goodness sake Tim Davies...you are so, uh, so, uh Pro-America. And, definitely hit the nail right on the head. Political freedom appears to be only acceptable if leftward leaning.
Kevin November 14, 2013 at 11:39 AM
this was nothing uniquely american about it - afterall, they burn obama pictures in Iran & Egypt.... I'd never vote for obama but I can prefer kid marching bands and things that unite us as a community over divisive politics..... tit4tat political statements by every float would clearly ruin the event. when politicians join the parade shaking hands, they see me with my arms folded with no interest in shaking their hands - a very effective political statement indeed; i'd prefer they stay out of this as well btw.
