Improvement Association President Offers Solutions to Prevent Overcrowding

Perry Hall Improvement Association president Dennis Robinson sent a letter to Superintendent S. Dallas Dance requesting a third community meeting.

Perry Hall community leaders are presenting a united front to tackle short- and long-term solutions to overcrowding in northeast Baltimore County public schools. County Councilman David Marks and Perry Hall Improvement Association president Dennis Robinson this week sent letters to Superintendent S. Dallas Dance requesting a third community input meeting to discuss overcrowding. Robinson's letter is attached. Marks's letter can be read here. The most immediate concern is focused on Chapel Hill Elementary School, which Patch reported earlier this week could be about 200 students over-capacity next year. New numbers, however, indicate that while the school remains overcrowded, the original report may have been an over-estimation. "The Chapel…

Powerball Jackpot Upped to $550 Million

The prize is the third largest in American history, according to lottery officials.

The Powerball jackpot for Saturday's drawing has been raised to become what would be the third-largest jackpot prize in American history. Due to strong sales, the jackpot for Saturday was raised from $475 million to $550 million, with a $350.1 million cash option. It is the second largest prize in Powerball's history. No ticket has had the winning numbers for the past 13 drawings—since early April, according to a Maryland Lottery press release. Maryland has had two winning Powerball tickets since the Maryland Lottery joined the game in 2010. One was a Pennsylvania couple who purchased a ticket in Elkton on Christmas Eve in 2011 that won them $128.8 million. That September, an Abingdon couple won $108.8 million, according to the release. …

Perry Hall Fire Department Captain Retires After 34 Years

Find out more about the amazing career of firefighter Fred Trentzsch.

The last fire Capt. Fred Trentzsch would have to worry about was a grill, and whether or not one of his fellow firefighters would overcook the burgers. Trentzsch retired Wednesday after 34 years of fighting fires. He ended his career in Perry Hall where he served as captain since 1992. “Everyone says you’ll know when it’s time. And it’s my time,” Trentzsch said.  “I love coming to work. I’m going to miss that a lot. I love the guys. I love the calls. It’s just time to let the new guys come in and take over. “But I won’t miss getting up in the middle of the night for alarm bells,” he continued. In his office, a packed black duffle bag sat on his bed, neatly tucked with a faded green blanket. “I’m feeling happy, but I’m also feeling sad. …

Softball: Owls Oust Perry Hall from Playoffs [Pictures]

Westminster knocked out the Gators 3-0 in Perry Hall Wednesday afternoon.

Don’t let their in-season record fool you. The 7-12 Westminster Owls are not to be trifled with. “We really started to come into our own in the post season,” head coach Ashley Moyer said. “One thing that I've stressed to the girls is that our season record means nothing in the post season. The teams that we face know nothing about us.” The Lady Owls ousted Perry Hall 3-0 in the regional semifinals of the class 4A softball playoffs Wednesday. View the full bracket here. “We played a hard regular season schedule and we came out of it looking to show that we are better than our record,” Moyer said. A standout performance from freshman pitcher Emily Maseth made the difference against a sturdy Perry Hall that ended the regular season with a 15-…
