Baltimore County Offers Beaches Without the Drive

You don't have to go to Ocean City to enjoy a family day at the beach.

Even with lower gas prices, a trip to an ocean resort can get expensive, with travel, housing, eating and shopping costs that pile up. If you're looking for an alternative to trips to coastal resorts, you don't have to look beyond your own county. Thanks to the Baltimore County Department of Recreation and Parks and Maryland Park Service facilities, residents on the eastern side of the county have beaches practically in their back yards and residents on the western end of the county don't have far to travel to put their toes in the sand. What’s a good way to exercise that is also easy, cheap and something nearly everyone young and old can do to improve their health? Walking! Most experts agree that you should get at least 30 minutes of moderate-level physical activity on most, if not all, days of the week. But you don’t have to buy costly equipment or join an expensive gym. Walking briskly is a simple exercise you can do just about anywhere and at any time of day. And its health benefits are endless.
