Indian Rock Park Receives $30K Boost Toward Completion

The Maryland State Highway Administration awarded a grant to the Perry Hall park along Ebenezer Road.

Major improvements are coming to a low-profile wooded area and incomplete trail off Ebenezer Road.  County Councilman David Marks—who has worked with the Perry Hall Improvement Association to improve the 16-acre Indian Rock Park since 2009—announced that the Maryland State Highway Administration's Recreational Trails Program had awarded an additional $30,000 toward the park.  The same program awarded its first $30,000 grant toward the park last year. Baltimore County also announced a $10,000 match at that time.  Improvements are planned in two phases. First, a 6-foot wide asphalt trail will be added from Ebenezer Road, near Perry Hall High School, to a smaller existing trail. Second, an additional 1,700 feet of trail is planned to connect …

LIVE BLOG: Review of Indian Rock Park Trail Extension

County Councilman David Marks gained community feedback on a proposed trail extension at Indian Rock Park in Perry Hall.

The following updates were recorded live during the June 5 meeting: 5:34 p.m. County Councilman David Marks said he would address concerns among community members about teenagers congregating the area. Marks said the trail will try to be "out in the open." He said some kids may use it to go to school, but it will mainly be used by adults. 5:36 p.m. Marks said the plans are being coordinated with Perry Hall High School's environmental science teacher and the school's green schools initiative, because the trail runs adjacent to the school. An attendee asked who will maintain the trail. Marks said it will likely be maintained by county parks and rec, not schools. Several residents said they didn't want the trail closer to them, which Mark …

Meeting to Review Indian Rock Park Trail Extension

Construction on the trail may take up to two years to complete.

Little known and hardly developed, a small Baltimore County park next to Perry Hall High School is slated for a major trail extension. County Councilman David Marks recently announced that plans to increase walking amenities at Indian Rock Park are moving forward. He has scheduled a community meeting at 5:30 p.m. on June 5 in the high school's library to discuss the proposed extension. "From Ebenezer Road, the trail is planned to extend along the perimeter of the high school campus at Indian Rock Park, then connect with the existing loop that has been build inside the woods. The trail will then return to the high school campus and extend to the existing connection at Silver Hall Road," according to a statement from the councilman. The …

John, this is an excellent point, one I made many times as President of the Perry Hall Improvement Association. Land does need to be preserved west of Belair Road, but the state has raised the Program Open Space account considerably in recent years. East of Belair Road, we have quite a bit of land preserved, but the budget makes improvement of the sites unfeasible for now. Gough Park, for …   more ›

UPDATE: $40K Secured Toward Indian Rock Trail Extension

Trails near Perry Hall High School could be improved within a year.

UPDATE (2 p.m.)—Up to $40,000 has been allocated toward the extension of trails at Indian Rock Park, a 16-acre wooded area adjacent to Perry Hall High School, County Councilman David Marks announced Tuesday afternoon. The State Highway Administration's Recreational Trails Program awarded a $30,000 grant toward the project. An additional $10,000 was added as a local match by the Baltimore County Department of Recreation and Parks, according to Marks. Marks hopes to develop a hiking and biking trail between Silver Spring and Ebenezer roads, where there is currently no "pedestrian link," he stated in a press release. See plans for the trail in the article, DOCUMENTS: Plans for 2 Perry Hall Trails. The trail extension is in alignment with …
