Daniel Borowy attended his first day back to school on Wednesday.
Daniel Borowy, victim of the Perry Hall High School student shooting, returned to classes on Wednesday, assistant principal Stephen Arnold confirmed. "It was relatively quiet. We wanted to keep it low-key." Arnold said. "It was not meant to be filled with fanfare. We wanted it to be as comfortable for him as possible. He went through his day event-free." Within Borowy's special needs program, he works primarily with the same group of students all day, Arnold added. School administrators, students and community officials are working on planning a "welcome back" celebration for Borowy in the near future, and Borowy plans to participate in an upcoming blood drive and concert, he said. Daniel Borowy of Perry Hall High School and his guidance counselor, Jesse Wasmer, earned huge cheers at the playoff game at Oriole Park Sunday night.
Some of the biggest cheers at Oriole Park Sunday night came before the game even started. A sellout crowd stood as Perry Hall High student Daniel Borowy threw out the ceremonial first pitch with his guidance counselor, Jesse Wasmer. Six weeks ago, Borowy, 17, was seriously wounded when he was shot in the high school lunchroom, allegedly at the hands of a fellow student. Perry Hall guidance counselor Jesse Wasmer will be joined by Daniel Borowy.
The guidance counselor credited with heroically intervening during the August shooting at Perry Hall High School will throw out the first pitch Sunday at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Jesse Wasmer will throw out the first pitch before the first postseason game in Baltimore in 15 years. Wasmer will be accompanied by Perry Hall student Daniel Borowy, who was shot during the Aug. 27 incident, the Orioles announced Sunday morning. Read more Patch coverage of the shooting here. A student shooting on Aug. 27 rattled the Perry Hall community.
It was the first day of school during the earliest lunch period at Perry Hall High School, but it soon turned into an unforgettable day of violence. Judge John Grason Turnbull, II is scheduled to review a bail hearing for Robert W. Gladden Jr. at 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 13 in Courtroom 15, Baltimore County State's Attorney Scott Shellenberger announced. A Facebook page dedicated to sending Perry Hall High School guidance counselor, Jesse Wasmer, to the Ellen Show had more than 900 fans Friday.
Just hours after Monday's shooting at Perry Hall High School, students identified guidance counselor Jesse Wasmer as a hero who stopped potential for further violence in its tracks. Now, members of the community want his heroism featured on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show." The Facebook page "Send Mr. Wasmer To Ellen Show" was started Tuesday and had 923 "likes" as of 4 p.m. Friday. Students and social media are reporting that Jesse Wasmer, a Perry Hall High School guidance counselor, intervened after a 15-year-old student reportedly shot another student in the school's cafeteria Monday morning. "I turned around and the kid's got a gun, and Mr. Wasmer, one of the counselors, pushes him up against a vending machine and then he shot one more off," Ryan Brady, a student who witnessed the shooting, told Patch. Wasmer declined to comment when contacted by Patch. A Facebook page has been created to thank Wasmer. At 4:30 p.m. Monday it had nearly 950 fans.
