Only softball remains in Perry Hall High School's spring post-season as of Tuesday. Perry Hall girls' lacrosse was halted Monday by Dulaney after posting two high scoring 24-2 and 17-1 victories. The Gators were ousted from the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association 4A-3A bracket 14-9. The Gators' only hope of spring silverware now comes down to softball with all other sports finished for the year. The girls entered the tournament with a first-round bye followed by a comfortable 13-0 win over Western Monday. The Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association is launching a new initiative to teach parents, coaches and students the ins and outs of college athletics.
The state's governing body of high school athletics is striving to make the transition to college easier on student-athletes. The Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association has put together a program to help families and schools better understand the process of college recruiting and eligibility. The service is provided through The Recruiting Education Foundation, Inc., a nonprofit organization. "We are happy to provide this informational program to our student-athletes and their families at no cost," MPSSAA Executive Director Ned Sparks said in a news release. Perry Hall High soccer players raised nearly $600 to assist residents displaced by the Nov. 4 Perry Hall Farms condominium fire.
After a whirlwind season, including a regional title and nationwide media attention, members of the Perry Hall High School boys soccer team gave back to some local residents in need. Players raised nearly $600 for gift cards to assist residents who were displaced by the condominium fire that struck a Perry Hall Farms neighborhood on Nov. 4. The Perry Hall Improvement Association began collecting gift cards for victims immediately after the fire was reported. More than $1,000 in gift cards had been collected before the team's donation, according to Dennis M. Robinson, Jr., association president. Seven county schools qualify for the MPSSAA playoffs, which gets underway this weekend with the regional quarterfinals.
The field is set and the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association (MPSSAA) football playoffs get underway this Friday and Saturday with the regional quarterfinals. Baltimore County is well represented, with seven area schools making the postseason. The playoffs conclude on Dec. 2-3 with the state championship games at M&T Bank Stadium. The Class 4A finals is set for 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 2; Class 1A will play at noon on Dec. 3, followed by the Class 2A finals at 3:30 p.m and the Class 3A state finals at 7 p.m. Here are the regional quarterfinals games involving Baltimore County schools. Perry Hall High School Principal George Roberts announced Friday that the boys soccer team would be allowed to finish the season.
UPDATE (4:33 p.m.)—Unlike the character who inspired their controversial "Bernie" dance, the Perry Hall Gators live on. A principal's reversal on Friday and a 2-1 victory on Saturday will send the team to the next round of playoffs. "I'm so incredibly proud of you boys," Perry Hall coach Pete Eibner told the team after the game. Perry Hall senior Christopher Winter opened the scoring with long cross from the left flank, which found the side netting for a 1-0 lead with less than 20 minutes left in the second half.
