Developer Loses a Day Due to Improper Signage

Construction work on The Reserve at Camp Chapel was suspended Wednesday after inspectors found road closure signs to be in violation of a per-established agreement.

County inspectors shut down construction of The Reserve at Camp Chapel housing development Wednesday after roads were closed using misleading and misplaced signs, negatively affecting a Perry Hall business.  Chapel Hills Farm and Nursery owner Russell Berk, whose business is located on Chapel Road, complained earlier this week that the signs literally blocked customers from accessing the nursery as it heads into the peak of its busy season, Patch reported Tuesday. Read: Chapel Hills Farm: Development Disrupting Busy Season The Reserve at Camp Chapel is a 39-home development expected to be completed this spring. Segments of the road will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Friday. The nursery meanwhile remains open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.…

Chapel Hills Farm: Development Disrupting Busy Season

Road closures around the Perry Hall nursery will hurt business, says owner.

Developer D.R. Horton has broken a promise to minimize disruption around the Reserve at Camp Chapel housing development, according to a Perry Hall business owner and Councilman David Marks.  Recent road closures at the intersections of Chapel Road at both Cross and East Joppa roads have effectively quashed business at the Chapel Hills Farm and Nursery, according to owner Russell Berk.  "It's just killing us," Berk said. "Nobody is coming in."  A representative from D.R. Horton did not returns calls seeking comment Tuesday.  The farm and nursery opened for the spring in the second week of March and was benefitting from a few warm days heading into its busy April and May season when the road closures began April 8. "We'll lose the month of …

Katie - You are making the rest of us who live off of Cross Road look bad. While the initial road closure was on Cross Road from Cross Brook to Chapel, the CURRENT road closure occurs daily between 9am and 3pm on CHAPEL ROAD between Cross and Joppa. Perhaps you should 'take a drive' and see.   more ›

3 Weeks of Road Closures Planned for Chapel Road

Councilman David Marks has urged developers to minimize disruptions in the area.

The segment of Chapel Road between Cross and Joppa roads will be closed for three weeks as housing developers conduct utility work, according to Councilman David Marks.  “I have urged that the road be closed in a way to minimize disruptions,” Marks wrote in an email. “As a result, the closure will be limited to between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on the weekdays. Local traffic will be allowed, as well as traffic to the Chapel Hills Farm and Nursery. The road will be open at all other times to all traffic and on weekends. “I know some residents will be frustrated by the closure, and thank them for their patience,” he continued.  Cross Road at Chapel Road is scheduled to be reopened sometime on Friday April 5. Cross Road had too been closed for three …

Yes, really. Possibly you missed the point of my post, which was that the people who live adjacent to this new development were wrong to think that the empty land (or the horse farm that was there prior to that) was going to stay that way. Perry Hall was a nice place to live before you or I moved there as well. This perception that "I moved to Perry Hall [20 years ago, 30 years ago, 40 years ago…   more ›

It's a shame some people are not open to change. I think it would add a nice touch to the area. Perry Hall has a lot of charm and beauty and it would enhance it nicely. It fits in well with the small town feel the area is all about. Ironic, I was just pointing out the shopping center on Ebenezer to my husband and mentioning the same thing.   more ›

PHOTOS: 39-Home Chapel Road Development Eyeing Spring Completion

Developers have broken ground on 39 new Perry Hall homes at the corner of Chapel Road and Cross Road.

Dirt, downed trees and construction equipment fill an 18-acre lot planned to hold 39 single-family homes at Chapel Road and Cross Road.  While the Reserve at Camp Chapel housing development gained approval about four years ago, construction was held until this winter due to the struggling economy, Patch reported.  A representative of developer D.R. Horton said construction of homes will likely begin in January, and that the development should be completed by the spring.  The planned neighborhood is named after a former horse farm and the historic Camp Chapel United Methodist Church nearby. Projected new residents will add approximately nine students to Gunpowder Elementary School, six students to Perry Hall Middle School and seven students…

The thing about Perry Hall is that it has always been a mix of buildings, with a lot of residential. It can be spruced up, but there never was a "Downtown Perry Hall" like, say, Parkville. I applaud the efforts and hope things perk up. I love living in the area.   more ›
