Readers' Choice: The Harp Wins Best Mother's Day Brunch

Readers told us the best place to take moms for a late morning meal.

UPDATE (9 a.m., May 11)—Apparently, Perry Hall's only Irish pub is also a great place to bring mom. Readers chose The Harp at 8706 Belair Rd. as the best place for a local Mother's Day brunch.  Here's what the restaurant is offering between 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. this Sunday: eggs benedict, scrambled eggs, seafood souffle, french toast with pecan glaze, bacon, sausage, homemade has browns, slow roasted beef, chicken pesto pasta, veggie pasta, kids dishes, fresh fruit, salads, breakfast breads and dessert. There's also a made-to-order omelet station, Bloody Marys and mimosas. Brunch is priced at $18.95 for adults and $8.99 for children. Parents: Being a Mom Is No Easy Job

Celebrate moms this week. Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 13.

It’s just after 3 a.m. and I’m finally crawling back to bed because my toddler has been up with a stomach ache. As I drift back to sleep, my 5-year-old taps my shoulder. He’s sobbing because he’s had a bad dream. I settle him back in his bed—all while my husband slumbers undisturbed. Sound familiar? Yeah, this parenting gig is tough. I’ve come to the conclusion that the midnight to morning shift is definitely the hardest part. It leaves me frustrated with lack of sleep, jealous of my sleeping husband and doubling up on coffee in the morning.   Yet, I wouldn’t change a single thing. Motherhood is something you can’t prepare for and has the broadest job description you’ll ever come across. And the pay ... well, I won’t even go there. Some …

Student's Essay Wins Prize for Mom Battling Cancer

Perry Hall Elementary student Jordan Sprouse wrote an essay on how his mom is his hero.

  A diamond heart pendant may be out of the price range of most fifth-graders, but that's exactly what Perry Hall Elementary student Jordan Sprouse gave his mother last week as an early Mother's Day gift.  Of course, he had some help from his teacher Michelle Boyer and Reeds Jewelers at White Marsh Mall. Boyer helped coordinate the school's participation in a contest with the jewelry store. About 150 fourth- and fifth-graders submitted essays titled, "Why I Love My Mom." "[Jordan's] was the only essay that didn't follow the same pattern. It stood out in that he talked about how his mom was a hero," Boyer said. Readers' Choice: Perry Hall Florist Wins Best in Perry Hall

UPDATE (April 29)—With Mother's Day quickly approaching, readers helped narrow down the best place to get flowers in Perry Hall.  And the winner is ... Perry Hall Florist at 4401 E. Joppa Rd. with 50 votes. "We do excellent work and offer quality service. Our customers are very important," said Kathy Sanner, who owns the 50-year-old family-run business with her husband, Ken. A reader left the following review under the business' listing on Patch. Our family has used Kathy for years and have always been extremely happy with our orders! From wedding flowers to mothers day and anniversaries, its always been great working with this florist.
