Residents of two Perry Hall streets recently gave final approval to plans for speed bumps.
Two Perry Hall traffic calming measures have gained final approval from area residents, County Councilman David Marks announced on Friday. On Baker Lane, near Gunpowder Elementary, and Silver Spring Road, east of Honeygo Boulevard, near Stable Gate Court, two speed bumps on each road are planned for construction this June, according to Marks. While Baker Lane gained approval from Baltimore County this month, Silver Spring Road gained approval in November 2011. Both projects recently received the required signatures of at least 75 percent of nearby residents. "As County Councilman, I will almost always support traffic calming if it passes the engineering criteria and there is neighborhood support," Marks said in a statement. Where are the …

Firefighters pulled at least two dogs and two cats from the burning Silver Spring Station Apartments complex Sunday night.
Firefighters went to great lengths to rescue some four-legged fire victims during a blaze in a Silver Spring Station Apartments building Sunday night. While all 24 of the building's human residents escaped without harm, some pets were left behind. At least two dogs and two cats were pulled from the building, said Fred Schillfarth, who was on the scene with the Central Alarmers, although one of the cats later died. While working the fire, a Kingsville Volunteer Fire Company firefighter pulled a tan, curly-haired dog from the building. "It was about two minutes later, the lady who owned the dog came up and she had tears running down her face," Schillfarth said. "I teared up myself. I'm a big dog lover." A paramedic from the Baltimore County …

A small sign reads, "Ron Paul REVOLUTION" at the corner of Silver Spring Road and Belair Road.
It's small and apparently homemade, but it's the latest example of how presidential election fever has hit Perry Hall. Attached to a metal box at the corner of Silver Spring Road and Belair Road is a painted cardboard sign that reads, "Ron Paul REVOLUTION," with each letter in the "EVOL" portion flipped backward to spell "LOVE." Rep. Ron Paul, who is running as a presidential candidate in the Republican primaries, is famous for his die-hard followers, grassroots campaigns and small government platform. The Texas congressman made headlines on Tuesday by snaring nearly 23 percent of the vote in the New Hampshire primaries, coming in second behind presidential hopeful Mitt Romney, a former Massachusetts governor. When recently asked if he …
