Baltimore resident Charlotte Robinson was charged with felony theft for misusing a university credit card for personal purchases.
A former University of Maryland, Baltimore County employee pleaded guilty Thursday to a charge stemming from claims she made nearly $7,000 in personal purchases on a state-issued credit card. Baltimore resident Charlotte Alexis Robinson, 50, pleaded guilty to one count of felony theft, according to Attorney General Doug Gansler's office. “When public employees abuse taxpayer money, it erodes the public trust in government,” Gansler said in a statement. “This conviction and sentence will ensure the reimbursement of all public funds and hopefully serve as an example that defrauding taxpayers will not go unpunished.” Baltimore County Circuit Court Judge Mickey J. Detectives are investigating the death as a suicide.
Police said they found the body of a missing Pikesville native Friday night. David Johnathan Scherr, 20, a University of Maryland student, was unresponsive in a 2013 Ford Escape parked in a lot near Route 197 and Route 450, according to Prince George's County Police. Detectives are investigating the death as a suicide. Scherr had been missing since Dec. 19.

Choosing to move University of Maryland, College Park athletics to the Big 10 Conference was a shameful act that warrants formal investigation by state officials.
Anyone who knows me well will probably be surprised that the topic for my musings this week happens to be a sports-related item: namely the move by the University of Maryland, College Park to the Big 10 Conference. Given that I am not really a die-hard sports fan—I'm more interested in the social gatherings associated with sporting events—something must be really out of order for me to actually speak up. Up until the past couple of years, I was a strong supporter of Terrapin sports teams. As a 1995 graduate of the university, I have many fond memories of going to football games (and watching the Terps lose, mostly at that time) and basketball games. The University of Maryland’s Board of Regents on Monday approved a move to the Big Ten Conference, ending nearly 60 years of affiliation with the Atlantic Coast Conference, multiple sources reported. Rutgers is expected to announce Tuesday that it will join the Terps in the Big Ten, the New York Daily News reported. Maryland’s move is the latest in a flurry of conference realignment that has drastically altered the landscape of college athletics in recent years, often disrupting traditional regional rivalries as schools chase increasingly lucrative television contracts. Baltimore County police identified Earl Badu as the man who jumped from I-695 Thursday.
Earl Badu, 33, a member of the University of Maryland’s 2002 basketball national championship team, has been indentified as the man who died Thursday after jumping from Interstate 695 into a construction area on Interstate 95 near Perry Hall. Baltimore County police identified Badu as the jumper in an email on Saturday. According to University of Maryland’s athletic site, Badu was a member of the school’s 2002 National Championship team after walking onto the squad in the fall of 1998. Badu, a graduate of St. Frances Academy in Baltimore, died from his injuries at Bay View Medical Center. According to electronic court records, Badu, who listed a PO Box in Bethesda as his address, was convicted of passing a bad check on Sept. 21.

They're back. Last September and October, Patch reported on the stink bug invasion ad nauseum. Professor Michael J. Raupp, an insect infestation expert at the University of Maryland, College Park, tried to warn us. "What we've seen this fall is just the tip of the iceberg ... Marylanders are going to have to get used to it," Raupp told Patch. He declared the Baltimore County area "generally infested" last year. In your opinion, compared to last year, has the stink bug problem grown better or worse? What's your preferred method for dealing with them?

Dave Stinebaugh, a 2009 Perry Hall High School graduate, is a tight end for the University of Maryland's football team.
Whether it was on offense, defense or special teams, Perry Hall coach Keith Robinson always knew he could count on Dave Stinebaugh when he needed a big play. As a senior in 2008, Stinebaugh, a four-year varsity player at Perry Hall, tallied 45 catches for 632 yards and nine touchdowns for the Gators’ offense. He also and recorded 75 tackles, seven interceptions and five fumble recoveries for the team’s defense. As a junior, he caught 55 passes for 1,035 yards and 16 touchdowns and also intercepted four passes defensively. Perry Hall High School soccer coach Danny Skelton approached Joe Glos before the Gators’ 2009 matchup with highly-ranked Calvert Hall. He told his star forward he was relying on him to "carry the team through." As he often did during major games, Glos responded by scoring two goals and assisting on another as he led the Gators to a dominant 5-2 victory against the talented Cardinals, at that point ranked the fourth-best team in the state.
