White Marsh Volunteer Fire Kicks Off Cadet Program

The program will continue to accept new cadets, ages 12-16, on the third Thursday of each month.

More than a half-dozen children and teens joined the White Marsh Volunteer Fire Company's junior cadet program during its kick-off last week. But don't expect them to be running into burning buildings anytime soon. "They can't do anything hazardous," said Kevin Palmer, company president. "Mostly, we learn about team work." With a $25 membership fee, used to pay for activities, anyone between 12 and 16 may participate in the cadet program. "They learn CPR, first aid and the basics of fire fighting. They also participate in fairs and parades," Palmer said. "It's pretty action-packed." William Wychulis Jr. 12, a student at Perry Hall Middle, joined the program on March 15.
