Baltimore 'Stuffs A Bus' for MD Food Bank

Mix 106.5 radio personality Jon Boesche calls the 19th annual food drive recession-proof.

ShopRite shoppers and other Baltimore locals filled an MTA bus full of food and other non-perishable items faster than any year before, according to Mix 106.5 DJ Jon Boesche. Boesche and fellow radio personality Maria Dennis were on hand at ShopRite Saturday evening thanking generous shoppers for donating to the 19th annual Stuff A Bus food drive for the Maryland Food Bank. “I haven’t seen anything that denotes a recession or hard times. This bus has filled up quicker than any years past,” Boesche said, participating in his sixth Stuff A Bus event. He was cut off by a woman wanting to say hello after contributing an entire grocery cart full of just-bought food items. The woman handed six yellow bags to two Calvert Hall student-volunteers …

Sept. 15: Perry Hall Giant, Ravens 'Kick Hunger'

The Perry Hall Giant will host the food drive.

Hang out with Ravens cheerleaders, meet a former wide receiver and, while you're at it, fight hunger. The new Perry Hall Giant and Unilever have joined forces with the Maryland Food Bank for a "Kick Hunger" event. My husband went this morning with his donation, and met Qadry, and of course the gorgeous cheerleaders. He had a great time and said Qadry was very gracious, and kind. He really enjoyed posing for pictures with the girls, lol.   more ›

Hunger Next Door: Food Pantries Feed Perry Hall

The Perry Hall United Methodist Church Food Pantry and the Helping Hand Food Pantry in Upper Falls distribute food to struggling families.

After more than 35 years in the banking industry, Margaret Hubbard was experienced with money. Soon after retiring, however, the 63-year-old found herself gravitating toward those in short supply of it. Since October 2010, Hubbard, a Perry Hall resident, has devoted her time to working at the Perry Hall United Methodist Church Food Pantry. "I said to the pastor, I wanted to do something where I felt like I was helping somebody else, and this is where I found my niche," she said. Hubbard is one of several volunteers, mostly retirees, who work at local food pantries serving families and individuals who struggle with hunger, despite living in relatively affluent communities. I don't know if this was the organization that was situated in the foyer of Safeway last week, but was stopped by one of the ladies as I entered the store...it was easy to pick up an extra bag of (I took advantage of the BOGOs that Safeway had) and drop it off on the way out. If everyone bought just a few items on their grocery run, they would be well stocked! Thanks for making it easy to donate!   more ›
