True, it won't "determine" their future. However, the seniors on the team will forever remember that game as their last high school game, and their last high school season being ended by an unjustified punishment. I also agree that a lot of stuff in life isn't fair, but at least we gave ourselves the chance to try and change that for this particular issue.

ReplyHere's an article someone posted on facebook. It just emphasizes the stupidity of the decision they made.

A player's dad was handing it around to people because Perry Hall's coach forwarded it to him to let him know what Delaney's coach said. Then students were just handing it around and me & my friends ended up with it.

This is a letter from the Delaney coach to Perry Hall's coach. Look at the highlighted part. It says, "what everybody saw may have been misconstrued." OBVIOUSLY SOMEONE TALKED BEFORE THEY KNEW WHAT THE TEAM WAS DOING. They were just doing the bernie. Even Delaney admits it. Perry Hall deserves to play in semifinals because they did nothing wrong.

ReplyThey've done the dance before, Curley did the Bernie during a game against Calvert Hall, and Ray Rice does it. So why does the fact that they did it at this game make anything different? There's no "inappropriate gestures" in the picture. Their celebration was misconceived as taunting. They could've been punished some other way instead of taking away something they've worked for all season.

According to several of my friends who are on the team, they didn't even realize that they did the dance towards the opposing side until after. IT'S JUST A FREAKING CELEBRATORY DANCE, WHAT 'S THE BIG DEAL?! If Dulaney would've won, they wouldn't have celebrated? Oh okay, keep thinking that. Any team, no matter what sport or league, is going to celebrate in their own way, NO MATTER WHAT. It's just what people do. The coach sent a letter to ONE student's parent, just letting them know how the Dulaney coach felt. I didn't know people weren't allowed to share information, especially as important as that. No one cares about what organization the student-athletes are under. What's unfair is unfair, no matter what level. Even the Dulaney coach admitted that the dance was misinterpreted. You'd think that the fact that even HE can see the wrong in the situation could change something. There could've been other ways for the team to be punished, instead of taking away something that means so much.
