Baltimore County Accepting Public Comment On Proposed Trash Collection Changes

BALTIMORE COUNTY - The Baltimore County Bureau of Solid Waste Management has scheduled a public hearing for October 24 to discuss proposed changes to trash collection.

Baltimore County Department of Public Works has proposed changes to the “Regulation for Baltimore County Residential Trash and Recycling Collection.” They are specifically looking to change the protocol for bulk items, yard material collection, and recycling.

The County is considering changes to the recycling collection process to meet guidelines set out by state and local laws. Baltimore County has set a voluntary recycling rate goal of 45% each year starting in 2015, and the State of Maryland has established a voluntary statewide recycling goal of 55% by 2020.

By increasing its recycling rate, Baltimore County can reduce the usage rate of its only landfill, the Eastern Sanitary Landfill Solid Waste Management Facility in the White Marsh area. To view a full rundown of the proposed changes, see here.

The hearing will be held on Monday, October 24, at 6 p.m., at the Towson Library Meeting Room, 320 York Road in Towson. County representatives will be present at the hearing to accept questions and comments.

All public comments must be received by November 7, 2022.
