Police Seek Public Assistance In Solving 27-Year-Old Murder Case: Reward Offered

BALTIMORE COUNTY - Baltimore County Police are seeking the public's help in solving a 27-year-old homicide case.

On March 2, 1996, officers found 23-year-old Joann "Jody" Elizabeth LeCornu suffering from a gunshot wound on the 6300 block of York Rd. LeCornu was transported to a hospital, where she died.

What happened?

According to police, LeCornu was at the Mount Washington Tavern until it closed on that fateful day. After leaving the tavern, she went to the Curb Shoppe Bar in the 5700 block of Falls Road. After making a purchase, LeCornu drove to the Drumcastle Shopping Center in the 6300 block of York Road, 21212.

While in the shopping center's parking lot, the suspect approached LeCornu in her vehicle. It is not known precisely how long the suspect spent at the car or if there was any interaction with Jody, but at some point, he shot Jody once in the back while she was seated inside her car.

Suspect Description:

Witnesses described the person as a black male with a stocky build wearing a drab or green-colored army or camouflage-style coat. He drove away in a white BMW.

Reward:

Metro Crime Stoppers of Maryland, an organization separate from the Baltimore County Police Department and Baltimore County Government, offers rewards of up to $2,000 for information leading to the arrest and charges concerning felony offenses.

LeCornu's case remains an open investigation. Detectives believe someone has information that can help solve this case.
