BALTIMORE COUNTY - As Labor Day approaches, Marylanders have spoken: Gunpowder Falls State Park in Middle River is the go-to location for celebrating the end-of-summer holiday with a BBQ or picnic.

According to a survey conducted by Family Destinations Guide, the park stood out among other scenic Maryland spots, with Deep Creek Lake State Park and Calvert Cliffs State Park securing second and third places, respectively.

The online survey questioned 3,000 families across the United States to uncover the best spots for Labor Day celebrations. While the choices varied from state to state, Marylanders were clear in their preference for Gunpowder Falls State Park.

Favored for its serene woodlands, winding rivers, and peaceful waterways, the park offers an idyllic backdrop for family gatherings. Dedicated picnic areas are surrounded by nature, providing a tranquil setting for visitors. Beyond dining, the park boasts a wide range of recreational activities such as hiking, fishing, and kayaking, making it a versatile location for pre or post-picnic enjoyment.

Deep Creek Lake State Park in Oakland took home second place. Famous for its well-equipped, tree-shaded picnic areas that overlook the lake, families can rent watercraft or enjoy leisurely walks along the shoreline. The park also features children's playgrounds and various lakeside activities.

Calvert Cliffs State Park in Lusby claimed the third spot. Known for its picturesque setting against the backdrop of the Chesapeake Bay, the park offers well-equipped picnic areas and opportunities for educational exploration and beachcombing, enhancing the overall experience for families.

"Each year, families across the nation celebrate Labor Day in unique ways, reflecting the diverse spirit of America," said Rose Ackermann of Family Destinations Guide. "The essence remains the same: gratitude for the labor force that built this nation and a desire to cherish the fleeting moments of summer."
